The first question a viewer has after watching a good television show is whether or not there will be another season. The good news is that 1923 TV Series has been renewed for another season, and we will most likely be watching it at the end of the year.
Yellowstone, the fifth season of Paramount’s western series created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner, is currently in its first half. But, as the series faded from our screens, a new chapter in the Yellowstone universe, 1923 Tv Series, began. It was first announced in February 2021, when Sheridan signed a deal with the studio to create two new Yellowstone shows, including prequel series 1883, a spinoff chronicling the story of Bass Reeves, and another prequel: 1923 TV series, all with impressive names.
We now know that the 1883 TV series will return for another season, but what about the 1923 TV series?
The good news is that Paramount + has recently announced that the second installment of the 1923 TV Series will be available on television screens by the end of this year.
Season 2 will have eight episodes, similar to Season 1, with the majority of the cast expected to return.
The official synopsis for the Yellowstone prequel says it will “introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”
Following on from the spinoff series 1883, 1923 TV Series is set around 35 years before the birth of Yellowstone‘s main character John Dutton III.
1923 TV series to explore some interesting times
The main focus of 1923 TV Series is how major historical events like World War I and Prohibition affected the next generation of Duttons.
As for how 1923 TV Series will fit into the Yellowstone universe, MTV Entertainment Studios and ViacomCBS Media Networks CEO Chris McCarthy made the following comment about the upcoming series:
“With the brilliant mind and gifted storytelling of Taylor Sheridan, we have created an entirely new world to explore with 1883 while expanding Yellowstone, and with 1923 we will open up a new chapter in this rapidly growing universe.”
As per original studio description “1923 TV Series focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.“
Not unlike the parent series, 1923 will also feature the conflicts between the Dutton family and indigenous tribes. As Taylor Sheridan has repeatedly proven, Native American stories are close to his heart and play an integral part in the majority of his shows.
1923 TV Series stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton. “The Duttons live by a code of behavior that they set for themselves and it requires complicated moral and ethical judgment,” Ford told Vanity Fair.
“It’s not just the physical life that’s hard. The challenges that they face from modernity, the challenges to their way of life, to their freedom and the opportunities that they’ve enjoyed, is a big part of the story.
“The upcoming Depression and all of the pressures, economic and social, are leading up to this very volatile time in American history.”
The final episode of Season 1 will be aired on February 5th. Then we’ll be able to see the second half of Yellowstone Season 5, as well as the second season of 1883, sometime in the summer or autumn. So far, it appears that Taylor Sheridan Universe will be one of the year’s most entertaining events.
