Tabernas De Almeria – Spaghetti Western Themed Park For Sale

Tabernas de Almeria, a dusty and remote Spanish village, known as a place where Spaghetti Western was born, is up for sale for less than 3 million euros.

Once upon a time in a remote corner of Spain,  in Tabernas de Almeria, Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda slugged it out on screen to create a Spaghetti Western classic . This famous site, some 50 years later, is up for sale.

The dusty streets and squeaky-doored saloon where the stars did battle to the strains of Ennio Morricone’s fabled soundtrack can be yours for 2.8 million euros, according to a listing on the website of realtor Grupo Rukasa.

The 85,700 square-meter site near the Andalusian village of Tabernas de Almeria where the Italian director Sergio Leone filmed his 1968 epic Once Upon a Time in the West still maintains its original features and is “ideal to build an international film studio,” according to the advertisement.

The set of the violent three-hour classic is one of several in Almeria province that Leone, with the help of stars such as a poncho-clad Clint Eastwood and Italy’s Claudia Cardinale, used to create the Spaghetti Western genre and a slice of movie-making history.

According to the real estate agency, the site in Tabernas de Almeria is “ideal to build an International level Film Studio, with covered warehouses and modern decorations, or an amusement park! In its current state, this site maintains the original sets, preserved after filming for Sergio Leone and receives tourist visits, functioning as a theme park. It has different types of buildings in its arsenal: Hall for shows, with the bar, a shop, bathrooms for public use, a photographic studio, the stables. It has its own direct access road from the highway. The covered, bult area is about 1500 square meters.

It was recently reported that Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar will shoot a short movie in the desert area near Tabernas de Almeria over the summer inspired by Leone’s work. The movie will star Ethan Hawke.

The village of Tabernas de Almeria is also home to a festival dedicated to the Spaghetti Western genre, the Almeria Western Film Festival, which is set to hold its 12th edition this fall.
